How to train a dog

dogs training

Dogs are regarded as man’s best friend. However a dog needs to be trained in order to be man’s friend. Dog training is the process of a dog to perform certain actions in response to certain commands which the dog is trained to understand. There are many methods and objectives of training.

Dogs may be trained to:

Follow obedience commands.
For circus acts.
Be a guide dog to lead the blind.
Be a rescue dog to find victims of a disaster.
Be a hunting dog to aid in hunting.
Serve as a guard animal.

If trained from the age of just few weeks old i.e. when they are puppies we could change its behavior pattern and nature. For basic dog training we should establish a set of fixed and rigid rules for the dog.

It is wise to instill good habits and manners at an early age. Always praise him when he does something right rather than showing anger when he doesn’t. Punishing or hitting can become meaningless if done too often and can make your dog afraid of you.

The only time you should strike your dog is when he actually threatens to bite. Keep on repeating the commands, correct and manually guide him to perform the command until he learns each lesson and do it always in a firm, confident and no nonsense voice.

It must also be remembered that these rules must be known to all the members of the household in which dog resides which will help him to avoid any confusion. A dog requires discipline, consistency, and the patience of its owner. The puppy training phase is integral in raising a healthy and happy dog and keeping a safe and fun home environment. It is difficult to train an adult dog than a puppy.

Fundamentally, dog training is about communication. From the human perspective, the handler is communicating to the dog what behaviors are correct, desired or preferred in what circumstances and what behaviors are undesirable. A handler must understand communication from the dog. The dog can signal his emotions and his emotional state is important consideration for the training. If the dog is in stress will not learn efficiently.A handler can use signals to train a dog.

Reward marker for correct behavior.

Punishment marker for incorrect behavior.

Using messages enables the dog to understand more quickly. All the above information will help you to train a dog. In fact, to become a best friend of him.
