Library is a collection of books. Collection of useful material for common use. Now day's libraries are made more modern. Thus, modern libraries are increasingly being redefined as places to get unrestricted access to information in many formats and from many sources. They are understood as extending beyond the physical walls of a building, by including material accessible by electronic means, and by providing the assistance of librarians in navigating and analyzing tremendous amounts of knowledge with a variety of digital tools. Some libraries provide online way to order books. Youngsters, young professionals use this way. Some have tele library system where people can order books on phone. Older people make use of this facility. The library has both monthly and annual membership scheme. Some libraries also include CD's, magazines besides children's games and toys. In metro's libraries are in more demand where everyone is busy in his own world and the people who have less work e.g. housewives, old generation needs company and as books are one of the good friends of man they are more useful to such people. It’s indeed proving to be a boon for many youngsters who are fond of reading. |
Libraries can be divided into: Academic libraries Corporate libraries Government libraries Historical society libraries Private libraries Public libraries School libraries Special libraries. Libraries have materials arranged in a specified order according to a library classification system, so that items may be located quickly and collections may be browsed efficiently.
Basic tasks in library management include the planning of acquisitions library classification of acquired materials, preservation of materials the deaccessioning of materials, patron borrowing of materials, and developing and administering library computer systems. Thus, libraries are today's need for tomorrows bright future.
